How many puffs are in a Clenil Modulite inhaler? ›

Clenil Modulite is a pressurised inhalation solution contained in an aluminum can with plastic actuator and protective cap. Each canister contains 200 puffs.

Adults (including the elderly): The usual starting dose is 200 micrograms twice daily. In severe cases this may be increased to 600 to 800 micrograms daily. This may then be reduced when the patient's asthma has stabilised. The total daily dosage should be administered as two to four divided doses.

You'll usually need to take 1 or 2 puffs from your inhaler in the morning and 1 or 2 puffs in the evening. Some people can use their inhaler once a day once their symptoms are under control.

Very Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people): Thrush in the mouth and throat. This is more likely if the daily dose taken is greater than 400 micrograms. Thrush can be treated with anti-fungal medicines whilst you continue to use Clenil Modulite.

It is generally recommended to inhale 1 puff of your controller inhaler twice daily (12 hours apart) at the same time every day. Although there are multiple dosing variations, controller inhalers are not usually taken more than twice a day. Rescue inhalers are used to quickly restore your breathing during a flare-up.

The current ATS guidelines recommend the use of four puffs of albuterol to ensure “that the response is high on the albuterol dose–response curve”. However, this recommended dose was based on expert opinion rather than empiric data and the guidelines are not specific to the pediatric population.

Dosage during an asthma attack

In a sudden asthma attack you can use your inhaler more and take up to 10 puffs. Wait 30 seconds and always shake the inhaler between each puff.

The Rule of Two:

Each inhaler is typically designed to administer two doses of medication at a time. This means an asthmatic following the rule of two will use less than 208 doses of albuterol per year. That means most people who have their asthma well under control will require no more than one inhaler per year.

Clenil inhalers contain a steroid which takes a few days of using it regularly to build up its effect. Usually your symptoms should improve in 3 to 7 days. You should speak to your doctor if you do not notice any change in your symptoms after 7 days.

It does not provide any instant relief of symptoms but builds up protection and reduces symptoms over a longer period. With proper use of their controller inhaler, many people will be totally symptom free and need to use their reliever very rarely.

What happens if you take more than 20 puffs of an inhaler? ›

Some symptoms of albuterol overdose are chest tightness, shallow or rapid breathing, wheezing, blurred vision, chest pain, rapid heartbeat, tingling of the hands or feet, tremors, and seizures. An albuterol overdose can also cause high or low blood sugar, and low potassium levels.
